Hi, my name is Chloe Lewis. I was born and raised in Hickory, NC. I am an only child, but have experienced to some degree what it is like to have siblings. My dad is an only child as well, but my mom is one of 6 children and I am one of 10 grandchildren. My cousins are like my siblings, we are all extremely close! My mom was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, which is where all of her family still resides. I spend all holidays and breaks up north with them and plan on moving there as soon as I graduate. Similar to everyone else, I am getting my degree in elementary education, with a concentration in social studies. Although I love teaching and am looking forward to it, I plan on going back to school after a few years of teaching to get my masters in nutrition. My goal is to be a nutritionist for children who suffer from cancer, diabetes, etc. I am from “family is everything” and food brings together the hearts of many. Where languages mingle and immigration stories are re-told, And where laughter is the medicine for all troubles.
Where I am from, traditional family recipes are held at the depths of our hearts. A prayer is said before every meal and before falling asleep every night. My Nonna’s love has inspired all of her children to be the best parents they can be, To never lose sight of what is real and important.
I am from a house which holds the scenery of flowing green lawns and multitudes of flowers. Large Hickory trees stand firm in the yard, The smell of hay and bond-fires fill the air. Where wide open ranges mix with city traffic.
Where I am from, my mother is my best friend and true teacher of life. The lessons that she has learned and taught me are instilled in me, And I will one day pass on to my children. “Mio Amore” is my family!
